🥐 Classic Cream Puffs (Choux à la Crème)
🛒 Ingredients
For the choux pastry:
- 1 cup water
- 100g butter
- 1 cup flour
- 4 eggs
- Pinch of salt
For the filling:
- 1 cup whipped cream (or custard/pastry cream)
- 2–3 tbsp sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Make the dough
- In a pan: bring water + butter + salt to a boil
- Add flour all at once → stir quickly until it forms a smooth dough
- Cook 1–2 minutes to dry it slightly
2. Add eggs
- Let the dough cool a bit
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well
- You’ll get a smooth, pipeable batter
3. Shape & bake
- Pipe or spoon small balls onto a baking tray
- Bake at 200°C for 20–25 minutes
- Do NOT open the oven early (they may collapse!)
4. Fill
- Let them cool completely
- Cut or poke a hole
- Fill with sweet whipped cream
✨ Optional toppings
- Dust with powdered sugar
- Drizzle chocolate
- Fill with ice cream (profiteroles style)
💡 Tips
- Bake until golden and dry inside
- If soft, return to oven for 5 more minutes
